WHS Media Productions LLC was organized in 2002 by its owner William H. “Smitty” Smith, Ed.D. The purpose and mission of WHS Media Productions LLC is to produce and distribute media that supports cross racial/cross cultural understanding. It also provides consultative services to organizations and businesses regarding programs and training aimed at eliminating racial prejudice and advancing access and equity. WHS Media Productions LLC ‘s mission also includes providing financial, consultative and material resources to support the National Center for Race Amity(www.raceamity.org ) In its work WHS Media has received national and international recognition for video and film productions as well as development of materials used in education, business, non-profit and lay communities seeking to address bridging the racial divide through non-toxic dialogue and engagement.

About Our Founder

William H. “Smitty” Smith, Ed. D. is the principal of WHS Media Productions which he founded 2002. He is also the founding executive director of the National Center for Race Amity (http://raceamity.org ). Transitioning from public education administration to communication, Smith combines his skills and experience as an effective educator and media communications professional to promote cross racial/cross cultural amity as a means of moving America towards E Pluribus Unum. After years as President of ComTel Productions, Inc. he accepted the post of Executive Director of the Center for Diversity in the Communication Industries at Emerson College and later founded the National Center for Race Amity. He is the producer and co‐writer of the award-winning documentary Invisible Soldiers: Unheard Voices which aired nationally on PBS. He is concept creator and Co-Executive Producer and Senior Writer for the 2018 documentary for public television, An American Story: Race Amity and The Other Tradition presently airing on public television (http://raceamityfilm.org)

Our Service and Honors

WHS Media Productions and Dr. Smith’s service and honors include: National Education Association Award for Outstanding Program for Television (The Teller and The Tale Halloween Special); Cited in Sports Illustrated November 2005 cover story as one of the men who changed the face of college football; Decorated veteran of Viet Nam while serving as a conscientious objector medic in a combat platoon; Screen Actors Guild Diversity in Production Award; Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame Award; Founder, Campus Conversations on Race College Network; Past Member, National Race Unity Committee, National Spiritual Assembly of Baha’is of the United States; Bank of America Balfour Scholar Award; Outstanding Service Award, National Association of Black Veterans; Recipient of the International Colloquium on Black Males in Education’s Warrior Award in 2018 in Dublin Ireland. Principal Organizer of the historic US Congress Joint Resolution Establishing the National Day of Honor for African American and Other Minority World War II Veterans; the NAACP Chairman’s Award for Media Production; Principal Organizer of the Massachusetts State Bill establishing the Second Sunday in June Annually as Race Amity Day in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts; Initiator of 2019 South Carolina House Resolution 4339 which proclaimed Sunday June, 2019 as Race Amity Day in the State of South Carolina.

Smith is the co-author of Race Amity – America’s Other Tradition: A Primer (2019 Shining Light Press/WHS Media Prodcutions.com) Smith is the principal of WHS Medai Productions LCC which is creator of the five half hour series “American Stories – Race Amity and The Other Tradition” distributed via World Channel and NETA (National Educational Telecommunications Association). WHS Media Presentation Services offers special engagements featuring Founder William H. “Smitty” Smith. He received his BA (Cum Laude), M.Ed, and Ed.D. from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He holds certificates from Dartmouth College, Amos Tuck School Minority Business Executive Program and Advanced Minority Business Executive Program. Virtual Library Lecture Series

From December 2020 to May 2021 WHS Media Productions offered a Virtual Library Multimedia Lecture Series, Race Amity and The Other Tradition. The program offers short lecture/ film video presentation and live interactive audience discussion. The 90-minute event was very popular with local libraries across the nation and will be continued beginning in October 2021
