An Introduction to Race Amity: America’s Other Tradition is a historical look at the origin of the socio-historical thesis of The Other Tradition. The Other Tradition, is a thesis developed by Richard W. Thomas, Ph.D., History Professor Emeritus, Michigan State University, that describes close cross-cultural collaboration to advance access and equity in society. This short documentary presents a chronology from the founding of America to the present that substantiate the thesis. Along with discussing the national framing of race amity at the initial 1921 National Race Amity Convention which was organized by members of the Baha’i Faith and likeminded friends, the film offers an optimistic view of how to address the racial divide in America. The film includes power commentary from Richard W. Thomas, Ph. D., Vanessa Julye and Donna McDaniel, co-authors of Fit for Freedom Not For Friendship, Hari Jones, Curator of the African American Civil War Museum, and historian Louis Venters, Ph.D.
